Look on the Brightside Day

Look on the Brightside Day

December 21st is Look on the Brightside Day. This month the Farmington Place Apartments have a few tips to help you unlock your inner optimist. We hope that the tips we include in this post help you have a sunnier outlook this month, no matter how cloudy the sky is.

Think of a few of the things you are grateful for first thing in the morning. Try to start your days with gratitude by briefly listing what you’re grateful for before your day begins. You can write down the things you are grateful for in a gratitude diary, tell someone else what you’re grateful for, tweet about your gratitude, or just think about all the good things in your life each morning during breakfast. This is an easy way to make life seem brighter. If you’re thinking of the good in life, you don’t have time to focus on the things that might make you feel pessimistic.

Listen to a feel good playlist. Putting together a list of happy songs can make you feel happier and brighter on a bad day. We recommend putting classics by Stevie Wonder (“Signed, Sealed, Delivered”), Hall & Oates (“You Make My Dreams Come True”), and the Beatles (“Here Comes the Sun”) on this playlist.

Clean up your schedule. A big part of being happier and feeling sunnier about life is being better at carving out time for the things you love. Spend a few minutes each week mapping out exactly what you have to do and how much time you think each activity will take. Of course, emergencies will always pop up, but by knowing where all your time has to go, you’ll know where you have free time to dedicate to the things you love.

Try something new. Sometimes brightening your mood is as easy as stepping outside of yourself to try a new hobby like cooking, painting, or gardening. Oftentimes local universities offer community education classes. We have the list of community classes offered at Wichita State University here.
