Farmington Place features a great location, but not everyone can avoid a bit of a commute. But there are a lot of ways to make your commute less expensive, more enjoyable, and better for the world around you. One of those ways is to drive an electric or hybrid vehicle, which saves on gas money and can be a joy to drive. Now is the time to consider what hybrid or EV would be best for you, and we’ve prepared a short list of some of the highest-rated electric cars in the country to help you out.
- The Nissan LEAF
The Nissan LEAF is one of the most popular EVs in the world. It is a well-equipped, all-electric hatchback that seats five adults and commonly travels about 80 miles on a single charge. It features great handling, brisk acceleration, and plenty of space for cargo.
- Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S is a bright vision of a practical and desirable all-electric sedan. According to official EPA range testing, the 60 kWh Model S provides 208 miles of driving range on a single charge, while its power and acceleration rival or surpass those of traditional gas-powered vehicles. It might be a bit pricier, but it delivers on that cost.
- Ford Fusion Energi
The Ford Fusion Energi offers a robust plug-in electric system in an ultra-popular roomy full-size sedan platform. The model offers the equivalent of about 100 miles per gallon, without compromising style or passenger space. After its battery is depleted, the Fusion Energi still delivers 43 miles per gallon.
- Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Toyota Camry has long been one of the most popular vehicles in the US, so Toyota wisely chose to adapt the vehicle into a newly-popular hybrid. According to the EPA, the Camry Hybrid gets up to 43 mpg in the city, and reviewers say that the ride is comfortable, quiet, and controlled.
- Toyota Prius
Toyota again — the Japanese automaker has worked hard to keep ahead of their competitors in the hybrid and EV markets. The Prius is the best-selling hybrid or EV vehicle in the country and is one of California’s most popular cars. Even the Prius Plug-In, the entirely electric version of the car, has outsold most other EVs on the market. Depending on your commute and the version you get, you’ll be looking at anywhere from 50 to over 100 miles per gallon.

This month Farmington Place Blog is featuring a local landmark — the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, KS! Sedgwick County Zoo first opened in 1971 with an Asian exhibit and American Farm exhibit. Since then it has expanded to include nine other exhibits, including the world-famous KOCH Orangutan & Chimpanzee Habitat. The zoo just keeps growing, with new animals being bred and born each year. The zoo even has an award from the Association of Zoos & Aquariums for breeding poison dart frogs and green tree pythons. Sedgwick County Zoo is committed to helping many endangered species survive and thrive, including the Mexican wolf and the African Painted Dog. When eight healthy Mexican wolf pups were born in 1997, the zoo carefully raised them before releasing one of them to the wild. The zoo’s Species Survival Plan® for the African Painted Dog is impressive and ambitious. You can read it here.
